PlanSwift alternatives in 2026: the 6 best, with real prices

Most people leaving PlanSwift are not leaving because it measures badly. They are leaving because it is Windows only, because it is $2,000 a year before trade packs, or because their perpetual license turned into a subscription in 2025.

So the question is not which tool measures best. It is which one measures well enough and then does the part PlanSwift does not. Six are worth your time, and every price came off the vendor's own pricing page on August 24, 2026.

Why estimators leave PlanSwift

Windows only. DownToBid's review roundup confirms there is no native Mac build, so anyone estimating on a MacBook runs a virtual machine to do it.

The all-in price. $2,000 a year is the starting point. Trade starter packs are $149 each and $349 for the general contractor pack, so a two-trade shop is closer to $2,300 before it measures anything. Third-party listings still quote the old $1,749 subscription, so expect the numbers to disagree.

Licensing changed under people in 2025. Struvia's comparison cites a Capterra reviewer who bought perpetual licenses in 2017 and was moved onto the annual subscription in 2025. Fair or not, it is the most common complaint in the reviews.

Stability on large sets. Struvia cites an estimator forty years in describing memory errors, hour-long project loads, and lost data. We have not reproduced this and will not pretend otherwise; that is what reviewers report, with the links so you can read them.

What PlanSwift still does well deserves the same honesty. Takeoff Boost, their AI suite, shipped in May 2026: Auto Takeoff measures a full page in under a minute, and Auto Count finds every instance of a symbol across ten pages. The assembly system is deep, it talks to a digitizer tablet, and its hip and valley, pitch, joist, and beam tools beat anything below. If your shop has ten years of assemblies in PlanSwift and nobody is on a Mac, staying is the honest move.

If those four complaints sound like your shop, though, the question is not whether to leave but where to go. So: six tools, what each costs, and where each one wins.

The six alternatives, reviewed

1. CostLogic

A browser-based takeoff, estimating, and invoicing workspace. Starter is $588 a seat a year for up to 3 seats and 25 projects; Pro is $1,668 a seat a year with unlimited seats and projects, and both come month-to-month with no contract if you would rather not commit. Measure the plan, price the job, send the invoice, all in one tab, with nothing retyped between steps, then sync it straight to QuickBooks or Xero. Auto Room finds rooms and areas for you. The part we would put against anything on this list is Onyx, the built-in agent. Tell it to add a layer, pull your measurements into the estimate, or raise the invoice, and it does the work instead of explaining how. It's available on every plan, Starter included. What we do not do: you record payments rather than collect them in the app, and there is no digitizer support. We are the newest tool here, and fourteen free days is all it takes to see why that does not matter.

2. Bluebeam Revu

PDF markup and collaboration that happens to measure, and the industry's default PDF habit, which is a stronger position than being a takeoff tool. Complete at $440 a year is the tier with the full takeoff toolset; Basics starts at $260 and Max runs to $590. Quantities export to Excel and stop there, with no line-item estimating and no billing. It does not replace PlanSwift's estimating half at all, so the estimate still gets built in a spreadsheet, but it is the cheapest thing here and you probably already own it.

3. Contractor Foreman

An all-in-one construction platform with more than 35 modules, which added a real takeoff module in 2026: manual tools, scale calibration, and AI auto-takeoff with a review step. At $588 a year for one user it is the cheapest way to run an entire business from one system, and it goes further than we do at the end, collecting card and ACH payments through Stripe. It is also the closest competitor to us on this list. The catch is that the takeoff module is four months old and unproven, and you adopt a very large platform to get it, so test the measuring before you commit.

4. Kreo

Cloud takeoff with a modern interface and the deepest published AI measurement of anything here: Auto Measure for rooms, doors, windows, and walls, One-Click Area, and Auto Count, all on Pro. Caddie, their assistant, answers questions about a drawing rather than editing it. Compare tiers carefully, because Lite at $420 has none of that; the version people actually want is Pro at $2,100 a year, which is PlanSwift money. After the measuring you get an assemblies database and cost calculation, but no proposals and no invoicing. Best if you want strong AI measurement and already have an estimating system you like.

5. STACK

The credible cloud incumbent for subs and mid-size GCs, with the longest track record and the most integrations. Takeoff and Estimate is $2,988 a year per user, and there is a real if limited free tier, which is worth knowing before anyone tells you STACK is expensive. You get estimating, custom assemblies, proposals, an Excel add-in, and ERP integrations, but no invoicing. The product that actually replaces PlanSwift costs more than PlanSwift does, and like PlanSwift it stops at the bid.

6. Togal

AI auto-takeoff: upload a set and computer vision detects and measures rooms, walls, and openings, with a claimed 98 percent accuracy on floor plans. Growth is $3,588 a year per user with unlimited automated takeoffs, and 2026 added Togal Assemblies and Togal.CHAT for asking questions of the drawings. It produces quantities and assemblies and nothing else, which is why the eTakeoff partnership exists. At nearly twice PlanSwift's price for half the workflow it is the wrong direction if cost is why you are leaving, and the right trial if measuring a 200-sheet set takes you two days.

Also considered

Buildxact and Handoff are residential builder platforms rather than estimator tools, so they are off the ranked list, but PlanSwift users in residential will meet them. Buildxact does takeoff and estimating from $2,030 a year, with invoicing only at $6,110. Handoff is AI-first estimating for remodelers, with plan takeoff at $8,628 a year, capped at residential plans under 5,000 square feet. Both collect payments and both do far more project management than anything above. To replace a takeoff tool, they are a lot of platform to buy.

What you give up by leaving

Your assemblies. Years of custom formulas, parts, and trade assemblies do not export cleanly into anything above. Budget a rebuild.

Trade-specific depth. The roofing, hip and valley, pitch, joist, and beam tools are PlanSwift's, and the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC plug-ins are not matched one-for-one anywhere here.

Hardware. Digitizer tablet support is a PlanSwift feature. None of the six replaces it.

Muscle memory. Twenty years of estimators trained on one interface is worth something when you hire.
